First Day: Pacific City, OR to John Day, OR

First of all, let me just say this: Today was an amazing day!

I woke up at 5:30 a.m. this morning, got my scooter loaded, gassed up and ready to roll. We left Pacific City at 7 a.m. My scooter was still running kinda crummy, but I had a plan, I just needed to get to my first gas stop.

Our path today was down Hwy. 101 to Little Nestucca River Road to Hwy. 22 to Hwy. 18 to Hwy. 22 again, down 99W, across Hwy. 20, down Hwy. 126 and across Hwy. 242 to reconnect with Hwy. 126 and then onto Hwy. 26.....if that makes any sense to you, you ROCK!!

So, like I said, the scooter was running crummy. 500 miles on the new piston and I was not confident in it's ability to not soft seize. So, one of the guys, I think it was Rocket, he suggested I put normal 2-stroke oil in it and lay off the synthetic for a bit. So, at the first gas stop in Albany, I bought the only 2-stroke oil they had and started running it. The scooter ran great!! I was able to eventually hang out at 55 mph without having to adjust the RPM's too much.

I met my parents in Redmond, OR for a quick lunch and hello. Then I headed to Prineville, where I gassed up again, because I wasn't sure if I would have another chance for gas before John Day. I started to get tired and decided I should stop, walk around, and have a snack, so I stopped in Mitchell, OR, where I found a small grocery store open and plenty of motorcyclists milling around. There was a group of 4 guys who all grew up together and every year they go for a long tour. They were quite intrigued with me and asked to take a picture. Of course, I said "yes!!". It was cool talking to them and eventually we said our goodbyes and we all got back on the road.

I rolled into John Day around 5:22 p.m. and was 24th in finishing for the day. Not bad since I did stop for lunch.

That's all for my blog for now. More to come later!
